Can anybody recommend a domain name provider Chhers Daniel 03 March 2003, 22:49 Do you mean you want some others or somwhere to host them? I may be able to offer either or both... Dan John Kennett 04 March 2003, 07:54 Stu What have you done? There's no need to pay more than £10 for a .com/org/net for a year or £10 for a .co.uk for two years. Try these: www.domaincity.co.uk www.clicknames.net www.joker.com As well as the initial price, check to make sure that there are no charges for changing DNS info or for moving to a different registrar. The three above are OK, but beware the likes of easyspace.com who have hidden charges. Also ignore anyone who contacts you by phone, email or post warning that someone is trying to register a domain similar to one of yours and kindly offering you the chance to reserve it for about ten times the going rate! John Jonny Fuller 04 March 2003, 11:29 wavehumper, I've used www.getdotted.com they're part of the special reserve disscount network, prices are ok and offer free hosting with unlimited web space and unlimited domain emails, have had no trouble (so far) Alex Brown 04 March 2003, 17:07 Heya, I use a website called www.ukreg.com for my domains - dead easy to config and use, and the costs are what John said they should be - I think it's £9.99 for 2 years of a .com domain, and even less for .co.uk. They do free e-mail forwarding, website forwarding, and dns stuff, and that's all changeable on the website. Once you have setup an account with them, you can buy as many domains pretty well as you want. -Alex matiboy 04 March 2003, 19:27 what in simple terms is the process once a domain name is purchased ? at present I use 10mb freespace from my ISP ntl. I created a website from some WYSIWYG program saved it in html format and dragged and dropped it into an upload folder took me two years to figure this out, never had any sucess with upload programs they just never seemed to work I currently use a URL redirect service to hide a longwinded homepage which works really well, so far everything free and something like www.greysea.cjb.net doesnt look too bad Actually very impressed with CJB.net as they even provide free & dead simple utilities such as guestbook, chatrooms which even I can figure out Back to my question, if I bought a dot.com address, how do i still utilise my freespace ? do I just use this name as a redirect to my existing ntl homepage ? simple explanations please ! Scubakid 06 March 2003, 21:38 Very simple answer YES ;) Give me a PM if you need a hand John :) thewavehumper 06 March 2003, 22:40 Thanks for the info Guys, I t would appear that I paid about a tenner more than I needed to. Unfortunately being Welsh I'll lose sleep over those tenners for a fortnight! |
