Icom m505

im looking at buying a m505, mainly because of the goodsize screen, and scroll wheel.

just wondering what people's opinions are on the icom m505, anyone got one?

also wheres the best cheepest place to get one.

They had those at the boatshow for £90 which seemed amazingly cheap to me. I nearly bought one (but didnt)

No - the M505 does have DSC. It fits in between the m421, and the m601, and as I understand it, it has the same features as the 601, with a smaller footprint, and a lower price tag.

I saw one at the boat show and liked it - I reckon it should be a good buy, I've always liked Icom kit.

Just bought one for my new baby >>> left the old M501/DSC 100 combo on my old RIB.This never let me down :thumbs:
Very pleased with it so far - its simpler to use than the old set up ...... and only one set & one antenna to find room for !!!!

i am now pretty decided on it now, only other thing, is any sugestions for a cheep gps with nmea output thats compatable, dont need anything fancy.

The other big thing with the M505 is the it is waterproof to IPX7 (1.5m for 30 mins)
Everthing else on the market is IPX7 (1m fopr 30 mins)

We have the 505 on this years demonstrator - the main unit is hidden below and every function is available on the handset which is removable for security - it also saves room on the console!

You cant go far wrong with Icom stuff.
99.9% of Ribneters would agree.
If the 505 had been out, I would have got one instead of my mighty fine 421.

My point exactly. IP56 should be enough for a fixed radio.

On the other hand, I would like my hand held to survive a fortnight at 100m (IPXn, where n is a large nimber), 'cos its more likely to go over the side.

The added advantage of IPX8 is that it will put up with life on an open boat even better than an IPX7 radio.

Might even make it Rouge proof................ok maybe not :D :D
