Icom M421 Mounting

Hi

Can anyone help?

Having recently bought our RIB we are now collecting all the other "bits" that go with it!

We have a Garmin GPS276c - which is for dual marine & road use, and is therefore mounted on brackets at the top of the consol for easy removal. I am wanting to get a radio and after completing the RYA Operator Certificate Course, have decided that my first choice is the ICOM M421, however my problem is a distinct lack of space to flush mount it.

Has anyone any experience of having this set on a mounting bracket, which I could then have on the top of the consol.

If anyone has any alternative suggestions I would welcome them!

A warning for anyone else buying their first RIB, you really have to think ahead as to what add ons you want and make sure you have enough space - we knew we wanted one with a jockey seat but didn't really do muchresearch and the one we got is rather small.

Pinto,

Can you post a photo of your consol. I have some experience of fitting lots of things on a consol. I might be able to advise you.

Here's our cramped console with the sonar piggy backed above it. We made it out of stainless, but I believe you could probably use the bracketry supplied with a little modding. The Lowrance brackets were pretty tough.

We will as a project eventually house the three units radio, plotter and GPS in a custom box but this wont be for a while.

I see what you mean.

If it won't go either top or bottom of the steering wheel, and you don't want to put it on a bracket. What about in the side of the consol. Bit difficult to look at but not impossible.

Hi

Thanks for the advice, I was coming to the same conclusion that the side may be the best option.

I have seen a bracket which allows the vhf to be removable from the side of the consol of another rib - my question is how do they fair if they are not surface mounted ie getting a regular splashing? Also how to the connections fit in to allow them to be easily removable? Any advice would really be appreciated, also of where it is possible to buy the relevant mount and connections.

....Matt, the plastic top mount - is there any chance of posting a photo of it, I am not sure how this would fit, or can you confirm the dimensions. My other problem is that I have now fitted my Garmin on the top, so there is even less space!

Not cheap but would solve the problem and keep the radio waterproof

Pinto,

I meant flusg fit it in the side. As I said difficult to see, but if you run it on dual channel it will be more than uasable.

And anyway have you tried cahnging channel when your bouncing around. So it may not be much more unusable than a front set up.
