Uniden SOLARA DSC - VHF Radio

I have read some old threads which indicate that the Uniden radios from USA are not compliant for the UK - but these threads are quite old. Has anyone got any up to date experience of them within the UK. I have seen some from some UK sellers which seem very reasonably priced?????

I've got a Uniden Atlantis (non DSC) handheld, which I bought about 3 years ago new via Ebay. No probs at all, works great.

It has all the 'international' channels to choose from and I can't see a DSC version being any different, after all you are simply dialing out on a VHF channel.

Please note that the DSC specification in the USA is not the same as in Europe. You need to ensure that when you change the channel selection over from US to INT that the DSC spec changes also (99% do NOT so can not be used in Europe). Also note that European dealers will not programme DSC data into USA sets.

Thanks - I suspected that there would be a problem with the DSC from the US in the UK.

I guess at £50 on e-bay they would be useful to someone who was not bothered about DSC for the time being, after just completing my VHF Course last week however I definately want DSC capability.

sounds like dvd regions! doesn't seem any point sourcing a cheaper DSC set from the States in that case.

Be aware as well that some of the GPS sets from the USA won't link to a dsc radio.
My Eagle Cuda 240 fishfinder/gps combo which I bought from the states won't-but it took a whole load of emails to Eagle to find out the difference and it's not clear anywhere unless you ask (and ask the right questions too-Eagle's customer service in the US seemed quite dense!)

The US use class F or SC101 as their standard for boats that do not leave US waters.
If they do they must fit Class D as we do here.

Class F and SC101 are a lower standard than Class D.

US radio's will be missing a few chanels too.
