MP3 Player

Hello all

Any suggestions for a portable MP3 player to run the amp and speakers I'm fitting into my console. Will have a headphone jackplug on a short length of wire hanging out of a gland on the console connected to the amp. Then I'll just Velcro the player to the dash.

Tried looking on ebay, but there are so many, and I don't know enough to make an informed choice.

Spec
512Mb or over
FM Radio function
Splash or even waterproof
No more than £50

Or does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks for helping somebody who hasn't caught up with technology.

Nasher.

If I were you I'd just get one of those really cheap Alba ones from Argos. Theyre less than £20 and will take an sd card. Chances are the player will get damaged pretty quick although the card would probably have a better chance. I know someone with one and it's pretty good for something so cheap.

Just a thought-I've got a cd mp3 player that I sometimes use at work. It's got remote controls in the wire of the output which could be velcroed onto the dash with the unit in a locker on the console. They don't jump badly as long as you get one with a decent anti-shock mechanism-your boat vibrates less than a truck. They are showing up on ebay for less than £20.

Nasher,

If I were you I would go for a cheap 'flash' type mp3 player. These dont have any moving parts so there's less to go wrong and they wont jump. Creative make good flash players (Muvo) and you could problably pick one up cheap from ebay.
I know they make a mp3/Radio player so happy searching.

Update on my MP3 Player installation.

Marine spec two part Speakers fitted nicely to the console in homemade mounts.

The cheap, new old stock, Ebay Amplifier I spent time fitting nicely and wiring up neatly….

Doesn’t Work.

Doh!

Moral of the story is:–

‘Test it before spending too much time on it’.

Not so cheap, and much larger replacement awaiting fitment in a different position because it’s too big to fit in the original place.

Oh, but the new one does have a ‘Blue Glow’ emitting from it, which the spotty teenager I brought it from informs me is “cool”.
I thought about asking him if the Blue light does indeed increase the thermal efficiency of the cooling fins on the amp, but thought better of it on the grounds of not wanting to explain humour more sophisticated than Sponge Bob Square Pants.

Next step is to get some waterproof coloured fluorescent lights to mount where the tubes meet the hull.
So creating my own pool of light under the boat as I cruise along. – Err…Wicked.

Moving on.

Can you buy bodykits for RIBs, to give an old Ocean a passing resemblance to a 7.2 Bananashark.
A-la Ferrari MR2.

I wonder what a Halfords Aerofoil would look like mounted on top of the A-Frame.

If I fit a foot throttle, can I add a square of drilled Aluminium to the top of it.

How about a replica WRX bonnet air scoop mounted on the console.

Chrome knob with blue light (to match the Amp) on the end of the Throttle/Gear lever

I wonder what a pair of Chrome drainpipes would look like strapped to either side of the outboard.

Can I fit a small piece of magnetic tube in the fuel line that will improve my fuel efficiency

Can I keep my console hatch closed with ‘Rally Style’ bonnet pins.

All this from a guy who does actually have a huge set of No Fear eyes across the RIB windscreen.

I wouldn't go for fluffy dice Nasher, mine kept getting waterlogged :D . As for the spruce pine airfreshner on the rear view mirror - tsk, tsk it just couldn't keep up with the aroma of my elderly 2-stroke.

I'm thinking of renaming the rubber strake as maritime go-faster stripes - what do you reckon?

When I bought "Blue Ice" from an Essex ribster I carefully checked for stiletto marks on the tubes :D :D
