I wasn't going to bother because I'm thinking of trading up, but in the end took the plunge and flush-mounted my Garmin GPS 178. Looks great, however, one problem (and by the way, I'm sure this has nothing to do with the flush-mounting). When I switch the light on, the brightness is intermittent. What I mean is the light goes bright then dark. Similarly, with the vhf (ICOM IC-M421), on high power transmission, the unit powers off then immediately back on. Anyone any ideas? Thanks.

As the radio is turning itself off when transmitting and then coming back on, I'd suggest that you check the condition of your battery and also the connections to it.
Suspect that you may find this solves both of your problems.

They seem OK having had them checked. However, I'm not back on the water until the weekend, so I'll see what happens then when they've had chance to recharge.

also if you have poor quality co-ax from your vhf the stray emmissions from the co-ax whilst transmitting can cause all sortsa problems - been there, done that ;)
