The Jackeens 05 January 2006, 20:37 Thanks for pm Bogib!
Yes we'll aim to be there for 14th. Be good to meet up with peeps there that weekend !
Shall look for you amongst the Sunseeker Laydees Howard!!!
Us :hi:
DJL 05 January 2006, 20:55 Dylan and I will be there on Monday (9th)
Hightower 05 January 2006, 21:09 I won't be there, our budget is being spent on a Kitchen this year :( . Don't even know if I can afford to come out on Monday night, but if the missus isn't looking I might pop out for a minute or two  .
tcwozere 05 January 2006, 21:44 Too many kids birthdays to sort out this time of year to be able to go and look at shiny boaty things..
Martin 05 January 2006, 21:48 We are having to go this weekend as have family commitments on the following one (Mum's Birthday).
Sorry not to be able to meet up with peeps, but we will see some of you at church on Monday.
M & A
Jimbob 06 January 2006, 07:55 We will be going on the 14th
We are going just to look around, but i do want to go on some of the small boats e.g beneteau and alike to see what you get for your money. Then at ribex have a look at what you get in a cabin rib for your money. I dont expect like for like but the next boat is going to have a cabin and it will be with us for along time
GED 07 January 2006, 14:48 80k buys you this
bogib 07 January 2006, 15:04 80k buys you this
How big Verados ?
Bogi
Jimbob 07 January 2006, 15:54 its not really a cabin, like the parkers or redbays. Alot of the "cabin ribs" are more large console with a hole in it....but thats my view
GED 07 January 2006, 17:26 inside it was quite roomy seating 6 people
peter pan 07 January 2006, 18:48 Walked a hundred miles, seen loads of boats I couldn't afford !
Wanted to buy Chart Plotter, need help to know which one to buy, too many to choose from.
Limited budget, so all advice welcomed.
Boat show dangerous place to take the better half as nearly bought Hot Tub, Garden Furniture and a £400,000 boat ! But it wasn't a rib so we left it alone!!
Ribald 07 January 2006, 19:30 just been told the wifes going drinking that night :@ why did i get married again i will now take the after noon off work pay full price
Dan have you not tried telling the "current" Mrs Daniel TD5 that you are going to the Boat Show on that night? :D  :@
DJL 08 January 2006, 15:48 Craig (+zapcat) was briefly interviewed on the ITV LBS program today.
Rodan 08 January 2006, 16:14 Howard it is stand S2448. not quite so near to sunseeker but the same hall. enjoy your weekend,...
Zippy 08 January 2006, 16:23 Thanks Charles,
When you back in the office? need a crash course in selling boat shipping! :D
Wayne Rogers 08 January 2006, 16:58 For a £80,000 cabin rib I wouldn't expect to see terrible workmanship like this,I wouldn't have had the nerve to display this at a boatshow. If they display workmanship like this what do they leave that can't be seen?
GED 08 January 2006, 19:12 I allso saw this but lets face it 80k is enough to put you off.... )))
CJL 08 January 2006, 21:22 I was there today for a meeting with the RYA.
It seemed a lot quieter than previous years. Mailspeed marine have 4 or 5 stands in hall one. (Why?)
Tornado stand was a bit of a botch job with XS Ribs sharing it also.
Zodiac / Avon had huge stands but mainly tenders on display.
One thing to look out for is the cocktail company in the main corridors giving away freebies and on the Frigate, give it a miss if over 5ft tall!!
Will be there on Sat also!
Chris
Cork Rib 08 January 2006, 22:39 Just back from 2 days at the show. I too thought the crowds were way down on other years (you could get served easily in the Guinness tent!)
We were not looking for anything inparticular this year , but are always on the lookout for bargains..........and it has to be said, we found very few of those ( including some clothing crowds getting rid of very old and poor sized stock, like extra extra small !) which was dissapointing. Distinct lack of Rib Manufacturers showing too. May'be they now find Ribex a better showcase or is it that they cannot afford the LBS rates? Any other comments on the show? :(
jwalker 08 January 2006, 23:43 .. terrible workmanship like this..
I noticed that in another pic and I agree it does look unsightly but I don't agree it's terrible workmanship. From the pic, it looks like a overlap join. To be fair to the builder, it is going to be nigh on impossible to get the multiple layers of glued fabric to stretch out into alignment with the single layer of the rest of the tube.
As to whether it was good to put a join at that position where it is particularly noticeable, is a different thing. :)
Edit: Just had another look.. could be an internal cone join which is a bit tight. The tube builder might frequent ribnet, perhaps he/she could tell us. ;)
ribraff 09 January 2006, 07:59 I think this is a difference in pressure between the chambers, as a result the bulkhead shows through more, if the pressure was the same in both chambers this would disappear.
CJL 09 January 2006, 12:47 I think this is a difference in pressure between the chambers, as a result the bulkhead shows through more, if the pressure was the same in both chambers this would disappear.
A lot of the big Ribtec have those indents on the tubes. The 7.9 and 7.4 definitely have them.

donutsina911 09 January 2006, 12:57 i'm guessing that prices charged by RIB manufacturers depend upon (amongst other things) the cost of production, supply and demand, competition prices and what they can get away with, so I'm amazed that the cabin rib is priced at £80,000 even with a couple of verado's on the back..is it me or is this a bonkers price for a rib with a roof?
The Edges 10 January 2006, 15:20 Go see the new Ribcraft 750 sport. Not what you might expect from Ribcraft.
Interested to hear how it performs on the water
Also go see springy seats on Ribcraft and barnet Marine Stands (but don't ask how much ££ )
DJL 10 January 2006, 15:37 Also go see springy seats on Ribcraft and barnet Marine Stands (but don't ask how much ££ )

Those seats are really conftable. Try jumping 3ft in the air and landing on it - you don't feel a thing! Shame about the price.
I was going to say that the LBS was pretty disapointing this year (mainly due to the lack of chandlers - mailspeed were everywhere!), but thinking about it I had a pretty good day. Managed to get a cheap 165m roll of 12mm octoplait.
I'm glad I stopped by the ICOM stand. The new M505 looks very nice and more importantly its cheaper and better than the M601 I had on order. M71's a great improvment over the M1Euro V too.
The new RNLI Tamar looks pretty impressive when your standing underneath it, all 30+ tons.
Davidgriffiths 10 January 2006, 17:59 Hope the new 7.5 is a good hull as ordered a 6.5 on the same hull design with a 175 Suzuki back in October. Just waiting fo delivery, some time at the end of March.

Fab
make sure you post your opinions when the new baby arrives
Thinking about ordering the 6.5 next year
The Jackeens 12 January 2006, 06:49 It's a big help reading all the previews   before struggling on up there ourselves.
Agree with Cork Rib : the Guinness tent is usually a good barometer of attendance!
Saturday tends to be a popular day i.e. barging around thru crowds all day

Rodan 12 January 2006, 09:50 Noticed this, for all those who had power questions on smaller boats... - excuse the poor quality phone picture.
craig_c 12 January 2006, 16:49 80k buys you this
I was at the boatshow as well, and myself, father and grandfather all looked at each other when we saw that boat advertised for 80 grand.....what nobody has mentioned on here was that did NOT include the verados or even a 2hp!!!!! that was only for the boat. if my memory serves right the wanted 110 grand for the boat and verados and 125 grand for twin yanmar's!!!
GED 12 January 2006, 18:52 I was at the boatshow as well, and myself, father and grandfather all looked at each other when we saw that boat advertised for 80 grand.....what nobody has mentioned on here was that did NOT include the verados or even a 2hp!!!!! that was only for the boat. if my memory serves right the wanted 110 grand for the boat and verados and 125 grand for twin yanmar's!!!
correct plus more money for the up graded upholstery
Roy Smith 12 January 2006, 19:08 That RIB (Grand Tourer) is also second hand, you can see her in This months
Rib Int under the Irish rib raid bit.
Melampus 12 January 2006, 23:22 Just back from a trek around the show-
The New Ribcraft 7.5 sport looks absolutely great all round....
The New Raymarine A65 is looks like a fine bit of Rib kit for the money...
The New Verado 150 looks interesting.....
The RNLI tamar looks impressive.....
The canal boats look like no fun!
Look out for the cheapest rib at 16.99-on the RNLI stand-could be good for honing those skills in the winter!
Jimbob 13 January 2006, 07:40 80 grand for the boat only then you have to engine it. They will turn people off cabin ribs at this rate----far too expensive
I bet they dont sell many of those
The Jackeens 13 January 2006, 07:44 Nice summary Melampus  Ta!
But you can't beat a canal boat on a canal  RIBs just don't 'cut' it.
missus

I think the 80K was actually for 1 verado, 120K for two of them and all the deluxe kit.
Why is everybody bashing this boat??? How much is a Parker or Redbay for a similar spec??
donutsina911 13 January 2006, 10:00 http://www.rib.net/forum/showthread.php?t=12689
think this puts the price of the cabin rib at LBS into perspective

But thats second hand. I bet both are similar prices new.
tcwozere 13 January 2006, 10:16 Why is everybody bashing this boat???
Who in their right mind who pay £80k for a pseudo rib, when you could have summat like this (http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/SMB076/) for £80k.. Or get one of these (http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/SOL054/) for £54k, and still have £26k left over for a decent rib..
CJL 13 January 2006, 10:24 Who in their right mind who pay £80k for a pseudo rib, when you could have summat like this (http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/SMB076/) for £80k.. So I take it we are not bashing this boat just cabin ribs on the whole???
C
Nauti Buoy 13 January 2006, 10:24 But thats second hand. I bet both are similar prices new.
So is the Ribtec
CJL 13 January 2006, 10:26 So is the Ribtec
Yeah but they are not selling the boat on show for 80K its a new one.
tcwozere 13 January 2006, 10:29 So I take it we are not bashing this boat just cabin ribs on the whole???
C
Cabin ribs costing £80k, yes..
Jimbob 13 January 2006, 10:32 The redbay is 65K with a proper cabin, e.g when i mean cabin one where the drive can keep dry, not a big console
We would like to have a cabin rib one day, however i think 80k for this is too much when you look at a hardboat and what you get in in. i think there are much better deals from Parker and redbay and others
I the future we would like a cibin rib, i just feel this one is overproced and we dont like it anyway.......however i will be there sat so i will have a proper look
Rogue Wave 13 January 2006, 10:42 The Parkeris reasonably priced cabin rib also the Ocean!
The Scorps a lovely bote though
swginn 13 January 2006, 16:19 As has already been said, that Redbay comes with a proper cabin, not just a big console that you can sleep in!! If I remember correctly that RIB although second hand has seen very little use and is only 2 or 3 months old. Finally it's a diesel and aren't diesels supposed to be generally more expensive than outboards (ie: engine rigging, etc.)
One thing I would like to see is a Scorp with a proper cabin (ie: roof over your head - I suppose enclosed wheelhouse is probably a better description) They make beautiful boats, I bet it would look stunning. I remember seeing a grey Scorpion before with a roof, but not fully enclosed, kinda like a Protector. Would be nice to see what they'd come up with.
Jimbob 13 January 2006, 16:32 My thibking exactly
DJL 13 January 2006, 16:50 I certainly wouldn't be buying that for 80k to 120k
You could get a very nice Botnia Targa (http://www.targa.fi/index2.php) for that
ADS 13 January 2006, 18:10 I certainly wouldn't be buying that for 80k to 120k
You could get a very nice Botnia Targa (http://www.targa.fi/index2.php) for that
Fantastic boats, but there not exactly good value for money either.
Poole Harbour Authority, Targa
DJL 13 January 2006, 18:28 Fantastic boats, but there not exactly good value for money either.
No true - but you could get a fairly nice 27 for 80k or a 30 maybe 33 for 120k
CJL 16 January 2006, 09:13 Don't forget that the Ribtec and the new shearwater are a cabin RIBs.
The Redbay's and the like are wheelhouse RIBS which are a differrent beast all together.
CJL
The Jackeens 16 January 2006, 20:52 mmmmm
I do like Targas
missus
