Painting outboards

I take it there's more to painting an outboard than just rubbing it down and wacking on some spray paint.....

I'm not talking about a shiny new engine here; it's pretty old, and the paint is looking pretty tatty (Johnson - white).

Any suggestions for a cheap and easy way I could jazz it up a bit?

Rub it down and whack some paint on.:) If you want a nice job get a signmaker to scan and reproduce the decals in computer cut vynal and a car body guy to do the paint. It'll look like new, but cost a few quid.

Nitrous Oxide :D

Seriously, I think Captain Chaos on boatmad does graphics, may be able to sort you out with some jonnyrude decals.
Or phone up Bill Higham marine and see if they have a decent cowling from a deceased Johnson.
