Richard B 26 November 2005, 17:29 Next month's RIB International (http://www.ribmagazine.com) compares Suzuki 250(4s) Verado 250(4s) Yamaha 250(4s) and E-Tes 250(2s). donutsina911 26 November 2005, 20:27 did tests on 250's on the back of Ballistic 7.8's - riva on here will know the outcome, or as RB says, the results are in rib int mag... Searider 28 November 2005, 08:25 Have heard down the grapevine that the results will be very interesting, and possibly not might be expected. When is the relevent issue of the magazine out? Richard B 28 November 2005, 09:22 I think it's due to be out at the end of January! RIVA 30 November 2005, 09:23 the test was quite a eye opener  quite good to see the manafactures gages against a calibrated fuel flow gauge .( the same one on each boat ) if i did not need a engine urgent i would wait some engines were far better in the high rev ranges and others remarkable at medium reves it will make a buying decision a bit easyier.you just need to decide if your a mid ranger or a full throtle guy Vas 30 November 2005, 10:24 Wasn't somebody doing a side by side test of these engines on identical boats a few months ago? Anyone know the results...........? I'm lost! :glug: So has this test been carried out, or not?? And if yes, by whom?! :eh: I'm very close to getting an Opti 225 for my new 7.20m.... Mollers 30 November 2005, 10:56 Hey, that 2250 Pti must be the D's B's! What ever it is? :D Rodan 30 November 2005, 11:02 There may be a problem with merc 225 Optis - I keep on having to put fuel in it to keep it going. RIVA 30 November 2005, 12:15 yes its been done , but no optimax was tested , only the manafactures 250hp flag ship engines were tested MarkM 30 November 2005, 12:57 pretty good testing done allready : http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=73848&start=26&posts=41 codprawn 30 November 2005, 13:13 the test was quite a eye opener  quite good to see the manafactures gages against a calibrated fuel flow gauge .( the same one on each boat ) if i did not need a engine urgent i would wait some engines were far better in the high rev ranges and others remarkable at medium reves it will make a buying decision a bit easyier.you just need to decide if your a mid ranger or a full throtle guy Was there much diff between them all at WOT??? codprawn 30 November 2005, 13:19 pretty good testing done allready : http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=73848&start=26&posts=41 Great review - seems like the Suzuki and Yammy 4 strokes did very well and the ETEC at WOT - the Verado is just too heavy for the power I think. Come on RIVA - spill the beans - we will all buy the mag anyway - can't wait until January!!! RIVA 30 November 2005, 13:25 yes intresting stuff it was nice to see the boats side by side off the mark, which planed quicker , which cavitated which did not . :D and the feel of the boats, which was a bit agricultiral which was not. the diffrance in clocks , and how the same boat sat at rest side by side some one elses engine cost of running , cost of ownership including service costs , de valuation it was a honestly fair test . no bullshit and no spin it also changed my view on one engine but i am sorry cannot tell you rib internatinols view on wich was best over all because i was not a judge and i dont know GED 30 November 2005, 19:06 Come on Riva tell us your review, some of us are buying one of these engines. i'st that what this forums about! Vas 01 December 2005, 07:58 There may be a problem with merc 225 Optis - I keep on having to put fuel in it to keep it going. I bet there is! ;) But what about its new rival, the E-Tec? I understand that Evinrude has faced quite some failures in the past, however the new E-tec seems very promising and cheap to run..... MarkM 01 December 2005, 09:24 After a 7 months search, I orderd a E-tec 250 yesterday. One reason also was that I could get a good prise for the 150 Ficht. The engine will be mounted on december 12th. First of all I need more horses and second 150hp for a boat this size and with 4 people in it, it's not economical. Found some nice info on them: http://www.boatingworldonline.com/Engines.htm and http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/ETEC.html and http://www.e-tecinfonet.org/ and http://www.dfitechnologies.com/ and http://www.outboardrepairs.com/evinrude/ and http://www.boatsetup.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=search The last one you can search for anything MarkM 01 December 2005, 09:26 By the way I'am very pleased with the Evinrude 150 Ficht 1998 that I owned for 1,5 years. Richard B 01 December 2005, 09:36 Excellent news, Mark - your RIB will really fly now! Vas 01 December 2005, 13:46 After a 7 months search, I orderd a E-tec 250 yesterday. In addition, all those tests and reports can be really subjective sometimes, coming from organisations who are glad to receive monthly checks for ad placements. I by no means wish to be offensive, but i've seen it happen..... Anyway, one can never now until he tests a specific motor on the specific boat... |
