Can anybody help me???

I've got a problem with the engine on my boat as it keeps jumping into gear. Now it would appear that this is a fault with the settings in the throttle box but I have no idea how to compensate for it.

Its a mariner 60hp four stroke with the standard side mount throttle box. Does anybody have any advice on how to set it up properly??

Also as it twins ideally I'd like the throtle positions to be identical and the actual revs on the engine to match also.

Anybody go any drawings of the insides of the box as well???

Please help!!!!

What sort it is?

The Commander 2000 boxes are common kit on a lot of Mariner engines, or is your the new design which has a rubber coated handle?

I have taken one apart on several occastions. Everything inside is jammed in; it's a nightmare getting it back together especially as there's grease everywhere!

Yup same as mine; Commander 2000.

It'a fairly easy to actually take apart. First remove the three bolts that hold it to the other one and the bracket. You then have to remove the plastic pannel which says Mercury on it. This will reveal a nut. Undo this, and the handle will come away. This will then allow you to undo (4?) large screws, allowing you to then take the side off and reveal the insides. Be really careful when you take the side of becuase it holds lots of the parts inside in place. Put a sheet or something down on your seat so you can rest all the greesey bits on it.

You can adjust the position of the throttle lever in relation to the number of revs by adjusting the scew thing on the end of the throttle cable under the hood of the engine.

Ps just read through this again. Not sure if the nut is on the left or right hand side so you might not have to take the plastic panel off. This will depend on which trottle your removing......I think....

Hi there

Just a quick note

If the throttle box is such a nightmare to adjust and put back together, Why don't you just adjust the gaer and throttle on the engine.

Just take off the hood, locate the cables, undo the little thing that keep the cable from falling off (Don't drop it :@ ), adjust the plastic thing by turning it a few times and then putting it back together.

My mate has sorted it out now. We managed to get a bit more out of the stbd engine so it will be interesting to see how it goes when we are out.

Thanks for peoples input!
