Hi Bogib,

I have the 7100. No major problems. Radio works well and wiring to GPS was well supported by Plastimo.

Only faults are. My friend knocked off the squelch knob when refuelling. It sticks out a bit proud. And the On/Off knob tends to get clogged up with crystalized salt water however much you wash it down after getting splashed.

The set on the whole is fine for the price. I've had it 18 months and it doesn't do anything strange or switch it self off or anything.

Answer/Solution:
A small amount of VHF 7100 installation manuals have a misprint in the wiring instructions. The manual lists GPS+ Green and GPS- Yellow. This is incorrect. It should read GPS+ Yellow and GPS- Green.




If you suspect that there is an error, use the actual labels on the VHF wiring harness. GPS + Yellow. GPS - Green.

After a year ours has lost its led backlighting, salt also crystalizes the on/off button, and volume is affected by water clogging the speaker plate on the radio, however seems okay apart from that

All Iwould say is if the radio is not needed urgently wait till January.

New models tend to appear at the boat show also it is the best time to get a great price.

Mine is now a year old. The spring that holds the distress button cover has fallen off so that flaps about a little bit. The nobs get really stiff on mine if I havn't ued it for a little while although they free up when its in use.

I tried to wire mine up the GPS but it didn't work; I'm assuming I'm sufering with the wiring issue described above.

Other than that I like it; it looks nice and comes with a flushmounting kit in the box (do Icom's come with these?)

Load of crap we have had 2 in under 6 months. one just stoped working and wud only pick up bit of radio talk and the new one if crap as well we have had all the wirein checked and its still crap will not pick up if ya about a mile off or so and are boat is not a wet boat really.

Whole crew will be attending the London boat show as well as having look at the boat.
The company I work for represents Navman and the boat will be fitted with 6600 plotter, 7200 radio. I have been using 6600 a lot but we haven´t imported their radios so far and wanted to have comments from people using them.

we've got two, had them for 18 months and they are in constant use. One had steamed up display and was replaced direct by navman after mentioning it at LBS. One red cover is flapping cos of the spring but otherwise fine and much less trouble than our previous of a well known brand which really didnt like getting wet!!!!!
