Yamaha Mariner 50hp

I have taken charge of an old RIB, with a 50hp Mariner outboard. On the cover is the word autolube. Can anyone piont me in the right direction for manuals, this RIB has stayed at the bottom of the compound for some time & is in need of some TLC.
Unfortunately it has ended up with me, my experiance is very limited, although I am willing to learn, it also has 3 cylinders.
Also, is it 2 stroke or 4 stroke ?.

2 stroke if auto lube.

Tim is correct it is definatly 2-stroke.
Auto lube mixes the two stroke oil, from a resovoir under the cowling, as opposed to you manually mixing it, like you would for a 2-stroke strimmer/moped etc. However, do check there is an oil tank under the cowling -should be towards the front of the engine and that it is connected up, because often on the older outboards the oil injection/ autolube is removed.

Good luck with it, the yamaha mariners are regarded as excellent engines, get a Clymer outboard manual, they sell them on amazon:

nice one. I should worry to much about the catch, patience and some elbow grease will probably get that out. I have a manual that covers that engine, it is very similar to mine. Are there any numbers on it?

From the look of that cover, it's a Yamaha, not Mariner (Mariners are mostly Mercury outboards in the 50-60 hp bracket)
The Yam 50 is a shit hot motor, provided it's all ok internally. I wouldn't let the outside appearance put you off if it's mechanically sound. Do a compression test on all cylinders or get an outboard service engineer to check it over. Most importantly, don't go cranking it over if you suspect it may have been waterlogged - take the spark plugs out and check them over, then turn the flywheel by hand a few times to check that all's ok. I could go on for ages, but without seeing it close up, it's difficult to give direct advice. If you're not too handy with outboards, it's probably best to get someone in the know to take a look at it for you.

Was out trying to locate the numbers on the engine, where would they be located.

A likely spot is at the very top of the leg just under the cowl, on the non-transom side of the engine.

have a look on your modified picture below........
if it's anything like mine the little plate has buggered off long ago. Some one told me they put the number on the core plugs aswell but I don't know about that one.

On your picture, the red line is pointing to a handle, this handle is seized, is this a lock for the engine, to stop it tilting ?.

The handle is for a stay to support the motor in the tilted position. Try raising the engine a little, before trying to move the tilt support stay.
