Anyone in my neck of the woods (South Hampshire - VERY South) interested in a RIB re-wiring job over the winter? + re-locate battery from aft to console c/w master switch etc.

Not got a fortune - will buy the materials and pay labour to right person? RIB winterised in Barn - power available.

Anyone interested in assisting?

Give me a PM if you need help, gonna give my boat a birthday over winter too.
I am a spark by trade, have been for 14 years. So I may be able to help with some of the bits if you let me know what you are after such as battery cables, wires, connectors, etc.

Yep, I agree entirely with Rogue Wave. Definitely use marine cable as it is tinned so doesn't corrode like auto or household cable will. Also worth using adhesive lined shrinkwrap on all crimped connectors to keep moisture and corrosion out. Try merlinequipment.com not cheap but very good. They sell BlueSea and BEP... nice, quality stuff.

This guy does it for a living, don't know what his rates are like, nor his work but came over as genuine.

DIY it!

Suggest you go to the suppliers already mentioned, but why not give it a go yourself if you have the practical ability, it's really simple you know and that's the word, simple. Don't over complicate things and you'll be fine, you'll also gain experience that'll help you one day if you have a problem at Sea.

I'm local and could give advice if you like.

They are good, but if you dont get one of those little heatshrinking gizmos for a propane soldering iron and use a heatgun it can melt the wire.

I used them on my landrover tow bar electrics over a year on and the trailer lights are still excellent. Available fron Farnell but branded "Raychem" or "Tyco"

"Blue" crimp (http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/partDetail.jsp?SKU=257862&N=401)

Have a go yourself as andy says, the benefits are massive, particularly if something goes wrong you know where to look, and can build in some interchangability of components to get you home.

I'm in your area, and your welcome to come and have a look at the system I've built after completly gutting my own RIB last winter and starting from scratch. So far nothing I've put in has gone wrong, just the expensive bits its been connected to.

Unless your completly happy with your ability dont do it yourself!

I did mine and besides the fact it took bloody ages in the snow i was constantly wondering what i had missed of when it would stop working!!

As it happend the only thing that did break was the isolator switch that i didnt touch!

dont underestimate how long it will take, find somewhere warm and out of the weather to do it and prepare to shape your body in all sorts of unnecessary positions! working on boats is hard work!

on the plus side, i did get a sence of achievement when i turned it on and it worked and i saved a bit of money.

Good luck!!

Thanks for all the advice guys - (even the smartarse one). I'll mull it over and decide what to do over the next couple of weeks. I really would prefer someone else to wire it though, although I am quite capable. I want to convert to a 2 battery system and change the location and the split charge diode thingy wotsit might push me a bit hard!

Thanks again,
