Chart Plotter Training

Having just purchased a new E80 Chat plotter. I asked if there was any training i could take. But it seams no one dose training courses for chart plotters i know we all have a basic knowledge but i would like to know a bit more.
Can anyone help

Read the manual !!!

Nearly all modern electronics are extremely well documented these days.

If its general chart reading and navigation training you need there must be plenty of training you can get on this.

If however you are a master at using paper charts - a couple of nights playing with the chartplotter with the manual as a guide combined with you skills at reading charts should be all you need to become a master at it.

If after playing for several hours you still have questions - im sure there are plenty of people on RIBnet that can help.

The problem with trying to train someone to use chartplotters is that they all have very different menu systems and it is nearly impossible to have a generic training course that would cover all brands and models.

I have pmed you, we do a few 1:1 courses on plotters, We can either do it on your boat or three of our yacht have the Raymarine fitted.

We do the course as well .In fact quite a few schools are now offering this service it,s not a recognised course but find more and more people want to get the best out of their plotters. And those shorebased Navigation Instructors who did their electronic update course a couple of years back now find its a good earner and a great intro to other courses.

I think that courses are a good Idea, not everyone likes reading instructions and aren't always very clear at that. I have a Garmin 182c and only use a fraction of the facilities on offer. I still think it's worth the money though!

Does you dealer not provide instruction FOC as part of the deal? I know that when I sell and fit a product instruction and ongoing support comes with it.

I suppose that the probleam with buying on line, Scorpion are fitting it but thats all. I had a Garmin 188c on the last rib which was great and i did spend time on the boat trying to work out what it all did, but i got called a sad thawt by my son for spending so much time on my own
a bit like the man in his potting shed down the bottom of the garden.
