The C70 is just a display unit and for it to work you will need to purchase options like

Raystar 125 for GPS + Navionics electronic charts
DSM 300 & transducer for Sonar
2 kW Radome 18" for Radar

Try this address Andy
http://www.nautequipe.co.uk/erol.html#2963x0&&

and click on Raymarine this should take you to the manufacturers site and there you can find all you need to know about both C & E Series equipment.

Hope this helps.

If one were to go down the C70 route, is it likely to work out expen£££ive for a GPS/plotter/fishfinder/depth combination?

Yes

the sounder module DSM 300 alone is quite expensive and if you do not want radar capability then do not opt for the C70

Go for the Raychart 435 or 435i as a GPS/Chartplotter
and for depth the ST40 but if you want a fishfinder then say the DS400X or DS500X. Then again it all depends on what rib these would be fitted

It is very much a multifunction unit. As other people have said you can get all sorts of different modules to plug into it. They do a GPS unit but almost any will plug into it - even a handheld.

Not cheap but really good kit - you can even download the complete owners manual from Raymarine to have a read through.

As with most of these units these days you can split the screen up or overlay data so you can have the plotter/radar/fishfinder data all displayed at the same time.

Andy if you are looking to have a colour plotter with GPS and colour sonar/fishfinder in one display the Standard Horizon CP175C with FF520 Sonar unit works out very economically compared to all the competion - details via link on our web site.

Ps all Standard Horizon units carry 3 year warranty.

Try Cactus they are on the web
I purchased a new E80 that will take the new 3D chart for almost the same price as a c series.
We opted for a ST60 depth finder not the fish finder it keeps the price down and its pluged into the main unit so you can see your depth on both
