One for Jon Brooks?

Did night passage while in Cornwall on 2 week holiday - shooting stars phosferesnce etc all fantastic but no backlight on my ICOM M601.

Should it be illuminated all the time? Is there a bulb to check, or have I missed a sub/sub menu to switch it on?

I could'nt spot in in the manual/index

Thanks in advance
Paul

I was out on Friday night and mine was dark also.

Got the instructions out the next morning.

Press the F key, folled by number 3. then rotate the channel knob until you get to the backlight level you require. Hopefully that should help.

From the manual page 54:-

Display backlighting
The function display and switches can be backlit for better
visibility under low light conditions. And the backlighting condition
can be adjusted independently from the transceiver.
q Push and hold [VOL.DIM] for 1 sec. to enter backlight adjusting
mode.
1. with number of backlight level appears in the channel comment
indicator.
w Push [UP]/[DOWN] to adjust the backlight level.
2. The backlight level is adjustable between 0 (lights OFF) and 7
(brightest).

not sure if that will help you or not

Its possible i got a yank manual and its different - i downloaded it out of boredom http://www.icom.co.jp/manual/external/transceivers/IC-M601.pdf

actually after reading more carefully my extract from the manual is only relevant if you got the optional remote control microphone (hm-134)

Alex - it will only be the three of us again - debbie is working - or at least she says she is ...

Thank you Alex and Roy.

When I next take the cover off I will try again.

It would seem you need to use some of these electronic items almost weekly to understand all they do!

Thanks Paul

With most electronics, if you think it should do something, it more than likely does. You just need to push all the buttons to figure out how it does it! :p
